Trump's Amerca

Meet the Press  -  08/30/2020
Representative Cedric Richmond (LA-D):

Trump keeps talking about what Biden's America would look like. Well, this is Trump's America. He has to own this moment. He has to own the incompetence around coronavirus and 180,000 American deaths, almost six million infections. Almost 38 million jobless claims. He has to own that. This is his America. So how do you break this country and then run for reelection saying, "I want to fix everything that I just destroyed"?

.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.

On the first night of the Republican National Convention, as one of their videos played, voiceovers forecasted the evil violent unrest that awaits should Joe Biden be elected president. The images that flashed across the screen, however, weren't of unrest in Biden's America. In fact, one of them wasn't even a photo of America at all.

It was a photo of fires burning in a street in Spain. The video came from a website that is a common source for stock images and videos

Never mind the fact that the unrest that is happening now is the result of police brutality that's happening in Trump's America, under his watch as president.

Pledge of Allegiance

President Trump accused Democrats of deliberately removing the word “God” from the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance at the Democratic convention last week.

The logical question is why would Trump make this statement when it is easy to verify by reviewing tapes of the convention? But then, why would one think Trump is logical?

The pledge was written in 1892 and altered in the 1920s. “Under God” was added in 1954, when President Dwight Eisenhower encouraged Congress to do so. Those two words have prompted a debate at times over whether people who do not practice religion should be expected to pledge allegiance to a country under God.

Did He Really Say That?

Trump noted the similarities between current COVID-19 circumstances and those experienced during a flu pandemic a century ago.

"The closest thing is in 1917, they say, the great pandemic. It certainly was a terrible thing where they lost anywhere from 50 to 100 million people, probably ended the Second World War," Trump said. "All the soldiers were sick. That was a terrible situation."

Uh….. The events took place more than two decades apart.

What do I know?

Walk Away

Trump has falsely claimed over 150 times that his administration passed Veterans Choice into law. The health law passed in 2014 during the Obama administration.

Trump was challenged yesterday by CBS News journalist, Paula Reid, after he again repeated his false claim that his administration signed into law the measure expanding health care options for eligible veterans.

Trump told the press conference: "They've been trying to get that passed for decades and decades and decades, and no president's ever been able to do it, and we got it done."

When invited to ask a question, Reid said: "Why do you keep saying that you passed Veterans Choice? It was passed in 2014."

Trump appeared to try to cut her off before she said: "It's a false statement, sir."

Trump replied saying, "okay, thank you very much everybody," and walked away from his lectern, ending the press conference.

lying lips

Trump made several falsehoods during the event, including that his plan to issue an executive order requiring health insurance companies to cover all pre-existing conditions for clients "had never been done before."

Pre-existing conditions are covered under the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, which Trump has ardently pushed to abolish since he took office.

Seeds of Doubt

Trump renewed his attacks on mail-in voting despite no evidence that it leads to voter fraud. In his latest attempt to sow seeds of doubt about the coming election results the President issued a series of tweets.
